Where Is the Planned Increase Going?

All business areas increased. The most significant goes to Public Facilities, which increased by nearly $1.1 billion due to new projects, including the expansion of the Convention Center, worth $315 million. The Parks category also increased by almost $400 million due to 27 new projects added.

What Are Ontario’s Largest Capital Projects?

Over $600 million is programmed for Public Facilities. Ontario has five notable line items valued at over $100 million and two at over $50 million. The largest project is the Convention Center Expansion, worth $315 million, under the Public Facilities category. In addition, $308 million is planned for the Municipal Services Center Relocation. Listed below are the other notable line items:

Regional Sports Complex - Design and Construction, worth $171 million under the Parks category. The project involves construction of a new sports complex that will house the soccer fields from Ontario’s Soccer Park, Westwind Community Center and include amenities (pool, little league field, playground equipment), various baseball/softball fields, Pee Wee football field(s), and possibly other sport amenities.
Regional Sports Complex - Acquisition, worth $135 million, under the Parks category for the property acquisition for the future Ontario Sports Complex.
Grand Park Phase 1, worth $105 million, under the Public Facilities category. The project involves construction of a 136-acre park which will contain an amphitheater, dog park, market alley, walking trails and orchards.
Pure Ontario Water (POW) - Advanced Water Purification Facility (Alternative Water Supply), worth $98 million, under the Water category. This project consists of the planning, design, and construction of an advanced water purification facility with the capacity of up to 9,000 acre-feet-per-year (AFY), including injection wells, purified water pipelines, purified water booster pump stations, monitoring wells, and a brine line necessary for the project.
Grand Park - Library Branch, worth $59 million, under the Public Facilities category. The project involves design and build a 40,000-60,000 square feet facility of public library space; install shelving, furniture, office furniture and equipment, library service desks, and other equipment; and purchase books and materials.
